A Synopsis on Loose Pearls

Pearl is a hard entity that is formed in the soft tissue of a live-shelled mollusc. It comes in various shapes and sizes but an ideal pearl is round and smooth. Pearls of the finest quality fetch high price in the international market. Pearls have been regarded as gemstones and items of beauty since time. It is for this reason; the word pearl has been used as an allegory for something that is valuable, fine, admirable, and rare.
The wild pearls are considered natural and rare. However, loose pearls sold in the market presently are cultured from freshwater mussels and pearl oysters. There is a wide variety of imitation pearls sold in the market as inexpensive jewelry. Nevertheless, the difference can be easily made out between genuine and artificial pearls. The artificial pearls lack in quality.
The wild or natural pearl is formed without human interference. It is rare and that is why hundreds of oysters were killed to obtain one pearl in the past. This is the major reason that pearls fetched exorbitant prices in the past.
The freshwater and saltwater pearls may appear to be similar but they are not. The freshwater pearl are formed in different genus of freshwater mussels. They reside in ponds, rivers, lakes, and other freshwater bodies. The freshwater pearls are formed in both hot and temperate climates. On the other hand, the saltwater pearls are created within pearl oysters residing in oceans. These are usually cultivated in volcanic coral islands and protected waters.
The larger the pearl, the more value it will fetch in the international market. Perfectly round and large pearls are rare and highly priced.
